How to Keep Sex Toys Safe & Clean in 2 Easy Steps
When it comes to sex toy cleaning, it's important to know how to keep different toy materials clean, sanitary, and body safe. Most toy brands include instructions or a care guide to help you keep them clean, and you should always follow these instructions first. But in the event you lose the original instructions or can't remember, we've created this little guide on sex toy cleaning based on the most commonly used materials.

Silicone:

SiliconeSilicone is very common, and one of the safer sex toy materials. It's often used for vibrators, dildos for women, realistic and otherwise, as well as dildos for men, packers, erection rings, anal toys, and sleeves. Silicone is known for being very smooth- almost velvety to the touch- and being a totally body safe and non-porous material with a realistic weight and feel. Often, it is safe to boil or run silicone vibrators through the dishwasher, but always confirm this with the manufacturer.

The easiest way, our favorite two step approach, is to wash the toy in hot water and a mild, non abrasive soap with no fragrance, then spray with one of our alcohol free antibacterial toy cleaners, wait a moment, then rinse and let dry. When drying, avoid a leaving behind lint, consider air drying.

Jelly, Rubber

Jelly and RubberMost often used for dildos for women- realistic especially- as well as dildos him, strap-ons, erection rings, vibrators, and anal toys. Jelly, PVC, and rubber toys can be tricky- they can be porous and very difficult to clean. Our two step approach will work, but for more porous toys, consider just using it with a condom to be safer (and easier).

The two step approach is to wash the toy in hot water and a mild, non abrasive soap with no fragrance, then spray with one of our alcohol free anti bacterial toy cleaners, wait a moment, then rinse and let dry. When drying, avoid linty fabrics or paper products- instead consider air drying. Some of these toys can handle alcohol, but check with the manufacturer first.

Stainless Steel and Glass

Steel and GlassThe beauty of stainless steel and glass sex toys is that they aren't porous at all- the firm metal and smooth glass are super easy to clean basically anyway you'd want to- our aforementioned two step approach, in the dishwasher, boiling, with alcohol, or even bleach if you really wanted to- but we don't recommend it for body safety reasons. Instead choose from one of our anti bacterial toy cleaners, or household alcohol (rinsing thoroughly).

Remember to consider the material. Dishwashers may move the toys around a lot and risk the stainless breaking anything else inside, or weakening the glass toys. If you do decide to boil stainless steel, be careful because they will be very hot as metal conducts heat. It's also important to keep stainless steel dry to avoid rusting.

"Skins", Realistic, DreamGirls

Realistics and DreamGirlsThese toys are meant to be as realistic as possible, and are usually made of a silicone, PVC, or a blend. Because they're so real, clean them like you clean the real thing- soap and warm water! It's always a good idea to use antibacterial spray, though, and keep these toys clean. If available, use the powder provided or recommended by the manufacturer to keep them dry.

Other Considerations

Always follow the manufacturer's instructions where available. When in doubt of a toy, use a condom. When you're in doubt of a material, use a condom. Keep your toys out of direct sunlight or excessive heat and cold. Never store sex toys touching each other- sex toy materials can sometimes react to each other. Pay attention to whether your toys are "water resistant", "water proof", or neither- only clean the sealed, closed end of your toys with running water. Avoid running water on any electrical components or questionable seams in the toy.
